We got some new Bond villains this week. Details of the next Bond movie – Bond 24 – were officially announced.

The film, which will hit cinemas next year, is called Spectre and will feature Daniel Craig as James Bond for the fourth time.

He will be joined by new cast members Christoph Waltz as Oberhauser; Monica Bellucci as Lucia Sciarra; Léa Seydoux as Madeleine Swann; Dave Bautista as Mr Hinx and Andrew Scott as Denbigh.

Waltz’s character is rumoured to be something of a ruse: he is expected to be the next Blofeld in Spectre.

Getting Bond villains right is a tricky science. If one element is just slightly out of place, you end up with a turkey – but get it right and you have Bond gold.

Here is the list of the worst and best Bond villains across the 23 movies in the series so far. Let’s start with the worst…

Top Seven… Reasons Why Skyfall Really Isn’t Very Good At All

Posted in TOP FIVES with tags , , , on November 7, 2012 by Ross McG

Only one man likes Bond films. His name is Alan Partridge. He doesn’t even exist. Beware of those who proclaim, ‘Oh, I bloody love James Bond movies. Bloody Bond, I bloody love ‘im’. They are liars. No one likes Bond films ***. They are films for people who don’t like films. Pre-packaged and flat-packed. Bond isn’t British. He’s Swedish. He is the Ikea of cinema. Continue reading

This week sees former Hollywood heartthrob Ben Affleck get his facial hair groove on by getting all bearded up for his new movie, Argo. With this in mind, what are some of the best beards to grace the big screen? Continue reading

The best falling from the sky movie scenes

Posted in TOP FIVES with tags , , , on October 22, 2012 by Ross McG

James Bond… DER-DER-DER!! He’s the man, the man with the terrible movie titles! Skyfall. It doesn’t really mean anything does it? But then what does Tomorrow Never Dies mean? Or The Living Daylights? Or, of course, Quantum Of Solace? What the smeg is a Moonraker? Skyfall, while obviously meaningless, is at least a catchy enough moniker and looks good on a poster. It also lets us come up with a completely tenuous list of movie clips based on the words ‘sky’ and ‘fall’. Yeah, you get the picture. Continue reading

Top Five… Eternal Movie Franchises That Should Have a Reunion

Posted in TOP FIVES with tags , , , , , , , , on April 24, 2012 by Ross McD

The American Pie crew are getting back together 13 years and eight films after the original (yes, eight! Have you seen The Naked Mile? No? Well, don’t). American Pie Reunion is actually pretty good, but we reckon these reunions would be a lot more fun to gatecrash. Continue reading

The Big Spy Battle… Bourne v Bond v Salt v the two blokes from Spies Like Us, as well as some other ones

To mark the release of spy v spy flick This Means War (yes, it’s finally being released: all those adverts on buses and the annoying 10-minute previews before movies you actually paid to see weren’t for nothing you know), starring Reese Witherspoon, Chris Pine and Tom Hardy, Ross McG does some spy v spy action of his own. Or spy v spy v spy v spy v spy v spy v spy action. Continue reading

Top Five… Bond Films Where I’ve Completely Forgotten What Happens

Posted in TOP FIVES with tags , on January 27, 2011 by Ross McG

We Rosses tend to be an unsocial lot. We barely have time to be nice to one another, so why would we bother spreading love among our fellow movie bloggers? Alas, for us, this often means we miss out on a lot of the admittedly great blogging memes that go round every once in a while. For that, we apologise, we will try harder to be better this year. Maybe. Anyway, the reason I’m rambling on about that is this post is our own little lame contribution to our good pal Paul over at Paragraph Films and his exceedingly funny James Bond January. He has been going through every one of the 261 films or whatever it is in the series, with truly entertaining results. I go to this guy’s site regularly just for his hilarious use of WordPress tags alone. He really is that good. If you get the chance, get through his Bond reviews. In the meantime, join us after the jump for Ross McG’s own little addition to JBJ. That’s James Bond January, not Jon Bon Jovi, in case you were wondering. Continue reading
