Blog Post Of The Week: What’s the point of the Oscars?

Posted in BLOG POST OF THE WEEK with tags , , on February 24, 2011 by Ross McG

To round off our Oscar week here on Ross v Ross, let’s ask if we really should have them at all (Uh… we probably should have them – otherwise what the heck would we have filled our blog with these past few days?). Who better to answer that question than the great Fandango over at Fandango Groovers. One of the first movie blogs we started reading once we got our little shindig off the ground, it still always manages to catch our attention, no mean feat when you get distracted by pretty colours as much as we do. It’s also just celebrated its second birthday. So go over there, wish him a happy birthday and read his great post on the Oscars’ current standing. You can read it by clicking HERE or the image above. Happy birthday, Fands. Enjoy the Terrible Twos… Continue reading

Top Five… Forgotten Oscar Nominations

Posted in TOP FIVES with tags , , on February 24, 2011 by Ross McG

They say history only remembers the winners, so why should Oscar history be any different? Here we countdown the Oscar noms that have completely slipped our tiny, fragile, little minds. These aren’t forgettable performances or movies – far from it – just the ones that make us go, ‘Wow, he/she/it was nominated for an Oscar for that?’ Continue reading

Blog Post Of The Week: And the Oscar winners should be…

Posted in BLOG POST OF THE WEEK with tags , , , , on February 18, 2011 by Ross McG

We’re going to cheat a little on today’s Blog Post Of The Week and give you a double helping, even if both posts come from the same blog. And what a blog it is. We Rosses thought we were the coolest movie-blogging duo in town until we happened across the CyniCritics, where the writings of Matt and Luke (presumably Mark and John spread their own movie gospel elsewhere) are a regular treat for us. Like a lot of us out there, the boys have caught Oscar fever this week and have each compiled a rundown of who will win what, but more importanly, who should win what. The great thing about both their lists is that I find myself agreeing and disagreeing with them in equal measure. Get over there and give your own opinion. To read Matt’s list click HERE and to read Luke’s list click HERE. Let the guys know what you think. Continue reading

Great Oscar Scenes: Kramer vs Kramer

Posted in GREAT SCENES with tags , , , , on March 4, 2010 by Justin Michaels

Dustin Hoffman shouts at a kid and gets an Oscar. If you or I did that the only thing we would get is a call from child services. Continue reading

Top Five… Jack Nicholson Oscar-nominated performances

Posted in TOP FIVES with tags , , , on March 4, 2010 by Ross McD

Jack is the daddy of the Oscars. No man has been nominated more than him. He’s been nominated 12 times, has won three, has been criminally overlooked a few times (The Shining, Batman, The Departed) and believe it or not has even appeared in some crap (Anger Management). It was a tough job picking his five best, but someone’s gotta do it… Continue reading

Top Five… Moments The Oscars Got It Right

Posted in TOP FIVES with tags , , , , , on March 3, 2010 by Justin Michaels

Poor old Oscar. Sometimes we’re so busy lambasting him for messing things up we forget that, from time to time, he got things absolutely spot on. Here are those moments. Continue reading
