We’re going to cheat a little on today’s Blog Post Of The Week and give you a double helping, even if both posts come from the same blog. And what a blog it is. We Rosses thought we were the coolest movie-blogging duo in town until we happened across the CyniCritics, where the writings of Matt and Luke (presumably Mark and John spread their own movie gospel elsewhere) are a regular treat for us. Like a lot of us out there, the boys have caught Oscar fever this week and have each compiled a rundown of who will win what, but more importanly, who should win what. The great thing about both their lists is that I find myself agreeing and disagreeing with them in equal measure. Get over there and give your own opinion. To read Matt’s list click HERE and to read Luke’s list click HERE. Let the guys know what you think. Continue reading

Posted in BLOG POST OF THE WEEK with tags Best Picture, Movies, Oscars on February 4, 2011 by Ross McGWhen we started Blog Post Of The Week recently we were initially keen to feature something from a different movie blogger each week. But that premise just got blown out of the water by our pal Univarn over at A Life In Equinox. Last month we picked his piece on how IMDb’s ‘Known For’ new section doesn’t really, er, work. But this week we couldn’t ignore his quite brilliant post, Diary Of A Best Picture Winner. On his Twitter account, Univarn said this was ‘the first post in a while I’ve written and it came out just how I wanted it to’. At first glance that might appear an arrogant comment, but it’s not. We know exactly what he means. That feeling of just writing something that you’ve just nailed. Well, Univarn, you nailed it buddy. Click HERE or the picture above to read his post. Continue reading

Top Five… Jack Nicholson Oscar-nominated performances
Posted in TOP FIVES with tags Jack Nicholson, Movies, Oscar, Oscars on March 4, 2010 by Ross McD
Jack is the daddy of the Oscars. No man has been nominated more than him. He’s been nominated 12 times, has won three, has been criminally overlooked a few times (The Shining, Batman, The Departed) and believe it or not has even appeared in some crap (Anger Management). It was a tough job picking his five best, but someone’s gotta do it… Continue reading
