When we started Blog Post Of The Week recently we were initially keen to feature something from a different movie blogger each week. But that premise just got blown out of the water by our pal Univarn over at A Life In Equinox. Last month we picked his piece on how IMDb’s ‘Known For’ new section doesn’t really, er, work. But this week we couldn’t ignore his quite brilliant post, Diary Of A Best Picture Winner. On his Twitter account, Univarn said this was ‘the first post in a while I’ve written and it came out just how I wanted it to’. At first glance that might appear an arrogant comment, but it’s not. We know exactly what he means. That feeling of just writing something that you’ve just nailed. Well, Univarn, you nailed it buddy. Click HERE or the picture above to read his post. Continue reading

DVD RvReview: The Town

In other news, we’re running a caption competition on the photo. It’s a competition where you don’t win anything though, other than the right to be obnoxious like us. So far, the best we got is: ‘The cast of My Name Is Earl were gutted to hear their show had been cancelled.’ Yep, you can do better than that… Continue reading

Blog Post Of The Week: X-Men: First Class And Superhero Nostalgia
Posted in BLOG POST OF THE WEEK with tags Comics, Movies, X-Men on January 27, 2011 by Ross McGThis week’s post of the week comes from Darren over at The Movie Blog. If ever a website deserved its title, this is it. He’s been on our blogroll since we started and for good reason. While at RvR we often deal in a pithiness that can very quickly get tiresome, Daz dissects films in intrinsic detail, always remembering to entertain the reader as he goes along. For instance, I have little to no interest in comic books, but I love reading what he writes about them, in the same way I suppose that I know nothing about cars but like watching Top Gear. Okay, I think I’ve bigged him up enough. His post that we’re featuring this week is about the new X-Men movie. Instead of drooling over the new pictures released, Darren delves into how the film’s historical setting will impact on audiences. It’s a great post. Read it by clicking HERE or the picture above. Top Five… Bond Films Where I’ve Completely Forgotten What Happens
Posted in TOP FIVES with tags James Bond, Movies on January 27, 2011 by Ross McGWe Rosses tend to be an unsocial lot. We barely have time to be nice to one another, so why would we bother spreading love among our fellow movie bloggers? Alas, for us, this often means we miss out on a lot of the admittedly great blogging memes that go round every once in a while. For that, we apologise, we will try harder to be better this year. Maybe. Anyway, the reason I’m rambling on about that is this post is our own little lame contribution to our good pal Paul over at Paragraph Films and his exceedingly funny James Bond January. He has been going through every one of the 261 films or whatever it is in the series, with truly entertaining results. I go to this guy’s site regularly just for his hilarious use of WordPress tags alone. He really is that good. If you get the chance, get through his Bond reviews. In the meantime, join us after the jump for Ross McG’s own little addition to JBJ. That’s James Bond January, not Jon Bon Jovi, in case you were wondering. Continue reading

Top Five… Movie Buses
Posted in TOP FIVES with tags Bus, Movies on January 24, 2011 by Ross McGMovie buses aren’t like real buses at all. While you wait ages for a normal bus to arrive and then two come at once, great cinematic buses pull into your stop about once every decade. When they do arrive, however, they are always worth getting on. Click HERE or the picture above of a certain iconic cop waiting on the bus to read this post Ross McG has done for the good guys at the UK’s biggest movie blog, HeyUGuys.co.uk. So get over there if you can and comment and have a good delve round their site, it’s ace. Continue reading
