The Shawshank Redemption v The Green Mile

The warden threw a party in the county jail. The prison band was there and they began to wail. The band was jumpin’ and the joint began to swing. You should’ve heard those knocked out jailbirds sing… One gets the sense that Elvis Presley didn’t spent much time in either of these two correctional facilities. They’re both pretty bad, but which is worse? Click HERE or the image above to read the arguments in this battle we’ve done for Metro Film Fight Club.

  1. …wow, would you like to burn to death or drown? Does Sir want to dine with Piers Morgan or Bill O’Reilly? Paul Potts or Pol Pot?

  2. Shawshank suffers from being on TV every four days, it’s a good tale.

Green Mile is meh, served up with a faint whiff of racism

  3. Ross McG “The world tries to tell me that The Shawshank Redemption is the best film ever made” You see here’s the thing THE WORLD is telling you this not just a few people, which means you should actually listen to an opinion that doesn’t agree with you, based on the fact that this masterpiece has touched so many people .
I personally would only rate the Godfather a very good film but I can see why other people rate it so highly so I accept how highly rated it is and to be honest if your going to be a film critic you should be able to tell that Shawshank has something very special going for it. The story is perhaps the most uplifting and inspiring story ever with a truely wonderful ending, Morgan Freeman and Andy Duframe give superb performances.
Been honest neither of you’s have come up with a valid reason why you’s don’t rate Shawshank as highly as it deserves and as you’s can’t back up your opinion i’d say in this case you’s are opinions are as relevent as a guy who thinks Adam Sandler is the best actor in the world

To say Shawshank is not a great film is the same thing as saying Spieldberg is not a great film director

McD, you all over the winning side of this debate! “Shawshank Redemption” is light years above “Green Mile.” I mean, essentially it boils down to a dukeout between MORGAN “Alpha and Omega” FREEMAN and Tom “Big” Hanks! God wins every time. No contest!

  5. I’d side with The Green Mile just to annoy the Shawshank Lovers Brigade. The Shawshank Redemption is a decent tale but it is vastly overrated. It might be uplifting but that doesn’t make it the Greatest Film of All Time. For me, Shawshank is overly sentimental, languidly paced, predictably plotted, and makes prison life seem like a holiday camp. Give me Papillon any day – the film not the prison sentence!

  6. The Shawshank Redemption is a better film by fa. It stretches all human emotions, and mostly keeps you entertained while doing it.

  7. I agree with Dan … “The Shawshank Redemption ” topping my list of all-time most over-rated films. And if I have to see one more God impersonation from Morgan Freema, I’ll scream, (his sickly religious voice-over at the end of “War of the Worlds” particularly enraged me, as it would have the arch-atheist H.G.Wells).

There is more gripping drama in the brief prison sequences in “White Heat” with James Cagney, than in the whole of “The Shawshank Redemption”.

  8. Shawshank Redemption FTW!
