Poetry in Motion Pictures: There Will Be Blood

Have you ever watched one of your favourite movies and thought, ‘You know what, I’d love to see that turned into a short poem’? Er, no, didn’t think so. Well tough, that’s exactly what you’re going to get here. Do you have a straw handy?

THERE WILL BE BLOOD

By Daniel Plainview

….

I drink your milkshake,
I drink it down, I drink it all up.
Strawberry, vanilla, banana,
I quaff it in one big gulp

*

I drink your milkshake,
I’m thirsty, thirsty for oil.
Black gold, Texas tea,
I slurp it right out of the soil.

*

I drink your milkshake,
I want no one else to succeed.
I have a competition in me.
But most people call it greed.

*

I drink your milkshake,
With my straw I drink it all.
I see the worst in people,
Then whack them with a bowling ball.

*

I drink your milkshake.
My milkshake brings
All the boys to the yard.
Damn right, it’s better than yours.
I could teach you,
But I’d have to whack you over the head.
With a bowling ball.
